Hamlin’s not even on the team and if the players themselves are voluntarily ok with taking the risk of playing a dangerous sport, I don’t think they’d care. Players usually like nicknames anyway.
NYC was in a recession in 1981 and they didn’t care when the Jets had the NY Sack Exchange defense nickname that year.
Steel Curtain during the height of the Cold War with the threat of nukes isn’t great optics either but no one cares about the name.
It’s a game. No one’s actually advocating for the death penalty, it’s a nickname. You could name the defense whatever you want, that still doesn’t minimize the optics or risk of injury, so objecting is pretty pointless.
