Rumors of him not being happy in Washington, named as a potential trade candidate for the Lions. Do we think the Commanders keep him? Trade him away, which could help free up money for Sweat/Young? Could get a pretty nice draft pick there for sure.
Thoughts?
The team is coming up on a difficult point where they have to evaluate their next contention window. Allen is obviously a great player, that is what makes him valuable in a trade. But, realistically he is turning 29 this season and is probably nearing his physical peak. Will Washington be competitive again during Allen’s prime? I don’t think that is an easy question to answer.
This roster has some serious balance issues, the premiere talent is creeping up in age and our recent draft classes are looking suspect. SB contenders are built by either having a HoF QB or by having a stacked roster and a cheap(typically rookie contract) QB. We don’t have a HoF QB and I don’t think we have a stacked roster to carry a cheap QB. It is time to start again.
Sadly I think the best path to a constant contender or SB caliber roster is to tear everything down through this offseason and hope for better days in 2025+.
It would be sad to let fan favorites go, but ultimately I think it is the right thing to do for the future of the team and for the players. Let the guys who have made the past years watchable have a chance to accomplish their ultimate goal.
guys we suck…we suck bad lol if trading allen ( i hate the thought of it) means we are in a better position to build a football team in the coming years…im all for it…i just need us to be trash juice so we can get a top 5 pick…
