Let’s all take a sec and appreciate that we finally have a coach that is holding our players accountable.
As much as I love Ivey and think he’s going to be a great player, the horrid defense and turnovers are things that need to be improved on if he wants to stay on the floor.
Hopefully Wiseman getting a DNP lights a fire under his ass and maybe he starts setting actual screens and playing some defense.
The Casey days are over, no more blatant tank jobs (at least hopefully not right after the ASB anymore) and no more BS on the court that our young guys get to play through for “development”. Development will come if our boys are playing high level basketball on a consistent basis. Praising effort, defense, and high BBIQ is how Detroit has always done it.
We are so back. Cade is Him. Go Pistons.
TLDR: thank god we’re not putting a circus act out on the floor every night anymore
I would bet a lot of money that the Wiseman DNP was simply done because it was a good rotational move, not to hold him accountable or anything haha. There might be some nights where we need his size off the bench, but Bagley is the much better player for the most part.
I know that’s not the main point, but last year it felt insane that people were freaking out at how many minutes he was getting, like we weren’t actively tanking and shutting guys down by that point. I always saw that as a trial run for Wiseman, and we saw what he was
I agree that last year was a trial run for Wiseman, but after so many phantom screens and 5 dribble post ups without looking up I couldn’t take any more wiseman minutes, but I got so used to just seeing guys do horrible things and then start the next game with no repercussions.
Wise has all the potential in the world but he just can’t contribute to a winning style of basketball. I would call it bittersweet to see him get a DNP but I really don’t care tbh, bagley has earned the backup big minutes
I get that, but to me it was pretty clear that the only reason he had such a long leash is because half our squad was shut down and we were in full tank mode. When Eugene Omoruyi is getting 20-30 minutes it’s really hard for me to take anything away from the games at all.
I feel like people are constantly overreacting to meaningless games—like how during the preseason all those people were saying that we should be concerned about Cade, and that Ausar might be the best player on the team. All it took was literally one half of an actual meaningful game to prove them all wrong
