What will happen this off season to keep Belichick in New England while hedging toward a bright future for the Patriots:
- Sign Belichick to a 3 year deal as HC, he will retire with Pats and get his 18 wins no matter what
- Hire a talented young GM to handle all roster decisions including the upcoming 2024 draft
- Hire a new OC
- Hire a DC for the first time that Bill would take under wing
- Fire almost all offensive talent, IE Zappe, Juju, Parker, Elliott, Gesicki, Bourne relying solely on existing A-tier talent, Mondre / Douglas
- Draft top QB/WRs/OTs in 2024 draft
- Keep Mac Jones as starter in 2024 with reset, giving him one final opportunity to succeed in a new system
While Belichick is unlikely to want to give up control of GM/DC, the spin will be that he is setting up the team for success when he inevitably retires. This will give Belichick more time to focus on what he does best while allowing for a new foundation to be set.
I don’t get what people don’t understand about the fact after having total control for so many years belichick is not going to just take being fired as GM. I love bill but he cares about legacy too much to go out like that. If he’s not going to be GM he is going to go to another team even if he can’t be GM there just to spite Robert or he’ll go to a team who will let him be GM/put in a yes man. If he was to stay here and give up GM duties he’d want one of his guys as GM and that’s the last thing we need given the last 5 years of drafts by his team. Let’s just let him go, get the record and maybe win somewhere else, remember him fondly, but start building towards the future with a new staff.
