What will happen this off season to keep Belichick in New England while hedging toward a bright future for the Patriots:
- Sign Belichick to a 3 year deal as HC, he will retire with Pats and get his 18 wins no matter what
- Hire a talented young GM to handle all roster decisions including the upcoming 2024 draft
- Hire a new OC
- Hire a DC for the first time that Bill would take under wing
- Fire almost all offensive talent, IE Zappe, Juju, Parker, Elliott, Gesicki, Bourne relying solely on existing A-tier talent, Mondre / Douglas
- Draft top QB/WRs/OTs in 2024 draft
- Keep Mac Jones as starter in 2024 with reset, giving him one final opportunity to succeed in a new system
While Belichick is unlikely to want to give up control of GM/DC, the spin will be that he is setting up the team for success when he inevitably retires. This will give Belichick more time to focus on what he does best while allowing for a new foundation to be set.
I think everyone would totally be okay with this and would deep down want this. Unfortunately for all of us, Belichick does not have the personality to admit he needs help so It’s never going to happen. He either stays with full control or he goes somewhere else that will give it to him. Then again maybe he’ll shock us all.
I don’t get what people don’t understand about the fact after having total control for so many years belichick is not going to just take being fired as GM. I love bill but he cares about legacy too much to go out like that. If he’s not going to be GM he is going to go to another team even if he can’t be GM there just to spite Robert or he’ll go to a team who will let him be GM/put in a yes man. If he was to stay here and give up GM duties he’d want one of his guys as GM and that’s the last thing we need given the last 5 years of drafts by his team. Let’s just let him go, get the record and maybe win somewhere else, remember him fondly, but start building towards the future with a new staff.
All these people that suggest a new GM…I want to know who.
Start dropping names of the guy that’s going to come in and start making roster decisions that Bill is just going to nod along to and accept having seniority over him.
That shit is just never going to happen.

- I have hesitations about long extensions given the current teams performance. While scheme wise we appear to be fine, bill doesn’t appear to be connecting with players so much. So… I dunno.
- obviously but they don’t grow on trees. Who? And fat chance Bill is ok with this.
- who? Is there really an upgrade over BoB or JMD out there? Especially one who will work with Bill? Our offensive scheme is actually fine, with some really clever play design too.
- Yet again- who? I’m asking because I’d really like to see some names floated so this can be a discussion beyond “just hire a DC”
- Zappe - very cheap and perfectly fine backup QB. Why would you get rid of him? Is Will Grier that much better than Zappe? Juju sure, Parker’s contract makes that hard, Elliot has performed alright, Gesicki is actually quite talented so you’d really like to find a trade partner for him… and BOURNE? Bourne has played really well, actually. Getting rid of him would be beyond stupid.
- Draft WHO? Which QBs? Which OLs? Williams? Maye? Float some names lol.
- No. This season was Macs last chance. He is playing worse football than he was last year. If this team was on par with Macs first or second season? Yeah okay see what he can do. But Mac Jones has taken a step backwards every single year he’s been here. We’d be better off hiring a veteran journeyman if we’re not going to play a rookie because a veteran QB can teach young talent and act as a coach on the field of sorts.
