What will happen this off season to keep Belichick in New England while hedging toward a bright future for the Patriots:
- Sign Belichick to a 3 year deal as HC, he will retire with Pats and get his 18 wins no matter what
- Hire a talented young GM to handle all roster decisions including the upcoming 2024 draft
- Hire a new OC
- Hire a DC for the first time that Bill would take under wing
- Fire almost all offensive talent, IE Zappe, Juju, Parker, Elliott, Gesicki, Bourne relying solely on existing A-tier talent, Mondre / Douglas
- Draft top QB/WRs/OTs in 2024 draft
- Keep Mac Jones as starter in 2024 with reset, giving him one final opportunity to succeed in a new system
While Belichick is unlikely to want to give up control of GM/DC, the spin will be that he is setting up the team for success when he inevitably retires. This will give Belichick more time to focus on what he does best while allowing for a new foundation to be set.
I think everyone would totally be okay with this and would deep down want this. Unfortunately for all of us, Belichick does not have the personality to admit he needs help so It’s never going to happen. He either stays with full control or he goes somewhere else that will give it to him. Then again maybe he’ll shock us all.
