Not sure if people remember but a recent comment I saw reminded me of this.
The history here is:
-
Damwon was by far the best team in Korea stomping everyone.
-
Damwon had just utterly stomped DRX 3-0 in LCK finals.
-
DRX was the 2nd best team in Korea but pretty far behind Damwon.
I remember when the match was drawn, everyone was depressed because one of the four quarterfinals was just a foregone conclusion.
Even the DRX players looked defeated in that moment. During the game too as they were losing, they just looked dead inside.
Everyone knew exactly how this would play out. We saw these teams play just a month before or something and it was a stomp.
It hurts extra bad because DRX had so many loveable players: Deft, Keria, Chovy and it was awful seeing them in that position.
And when the match was actually played, it was just a gigastomp again. 3-0 in the Korean civil war.
And just like that we never really got to see what DRX was capable of. They just played some BO1s and then drew their most unwinnable matchup in quarters.
Such a depressing memory lol.
In another world, we would see DRX vs Suning or perhaps vs GenG and then into an LPL team or G2.
The whole draw kind of sucked because we had LCK and LPL on each sides of the bracket… Suning played only LPL teams until the finals.
Late 2020 Damwon was so far ahead of every other team it was crazy, felt like the only team that could beat them was TES and they fumbled to Suning.
Greatest topside trio ever.
the greatest to have ever been. just look at these fucking stats man
we were fucking RUNNING LCK ever since week 4, still can’t believe we somehow lost to DRX because that damwon 2020 summer run was one of the most dominant runs ever. so many 2-0s done in sub 50 mins
As for me, unironically, JDG had better chances (which they prove in Groups) because it was tempo jungle hyper scaling meta with jungle playing carry champions and Kanavi shined in it.
