can but maybe takes longer, my friend (B) who started at the same time as me don’t know about that. and that is my experiences when i start dota in 2016. back then dota was complicated, i mean now they simplify some features (like showing stuns timing, roshan time, updating ‘new player’ guide, etc).
In my opinion there are 2 levels in coaching.
when you have 0 knowledge about dota. your friend will tell you everything about basic things, like hero skills (max “some skills”), item choice, do’s and dont’s, etc.
next is analyze gameplay. i watch replay together with my friend, and he tell me about everything during the game. Like pattern farm, decision making, situational build, and ofc my mistake.
then after that i can watch my replay by myself, i learn my mistake and improve my gameplay. my friend coach me is same like grubby get advice from pro’s and viewers
just tell you my stories
I get 4k in solo rank not party rank (back then we have 2 different MMR). and I get 6k solo after playing 2 years. In 2018, I often met players who are currently playing at competitive games (like yowe or mamangdaya). they are unknown player,
I mean at that time they just reach 6k mmr (same MMR like me). But because I have something else to do, so I’m not pursuing a career in dota. And after they added turbo, I’m became a turbo player :)
