I know this has already been asked but please share your opinion guys. I don’t own a steam deck but i’ve tried one from a friend, it had the etched glass( 512 LCD Version) and i didn’t mind the screen’s quality but also i haven’t seen a steam deck without the etched glass so… I honestly want to get the 1TB to support valve but if the oled is noticeably worse then i wouldn’t…
They will both look great. Just ask where you play a majority of time: indoors/low light or outside/on a daily commute.
I play indoors a majority of the time (even when not home) and I’ve never had an issue with my Switch OLED’s glossy screen even when on a daytime train so I’m getting the 512GB OLED having owned the 512GB LCD.
Are you going with the 512GB OLED to save money or because you think the 1TB model will look noticeably worse in some way? I also own the Switch OLED and the 512GB LCD Deck and the one scenario where I prefer the anti glare is on black loading screens because I don’t see my own reflection as much, both in bright and low light.
Going off of Taki Udon’s video comparing the Switch OLED with the 1TB Deck I don’t think the colors and saturation will be noticeably different. I heard someone say that the etched glass could make the image a little bit less sharp but with the reduced pixel density on the bigger screen that might actually be a positive.
Anyway, like you said they will both look great. The difference is probably negligible and if you have super bright lights above or behind you it won’t matter if the reflections are diffuse or sharp, haha.
Get the glare version, test if it suits your gaming habits. But a anti-glare screen protector if it doesn’t. Or buy the etched screen version, and buy the glare screen protector if you don’t like how the etched screen behaves.
You want to get the 1tb version to support Valve? Valve don’t need your support. They have more money than god and a magical loom that prints them more every day!
Get the Deck that suits your needs and budget, if one does at all. I’ve been having an amazing time with the 64gb version for over a year. I’ve got a trip back and forth across the Atlantic coming up for Thanksgiving and I’m as excited for a bit aerial gaming as I am to see my partner. All the Steam Deck models are good, this will be a big success for Valve, don’t stress about it.
