OKC fan so idk, I might be immune to tanking allegations. But you guys are doing it right. It is unfortunate that you are being put in the spotlight because of Wemby, but the team is young and needs experience. And I wouldn’t call it unfortunate either, the guy is awesome. Keep on keeping on. Let the young guys play and figure it out. Don’t add veterans just for the sake of being in the middle; that’s purgatory. You guys might need to “explore the roster” and draft well, but it will be worth it. But what do I know 💀.

Building through the draft sucks but its absolutely the way. We don’t need to nor should we be trying to contend for play in until we have what feels like a legitimate core of players. Lets have a couple bad years but also realize we have one of the best prospective players ever. Pairing him with more young talent through the draft is going to lead to us being real contenders and not stuck in mediocrity purgatory because we sign some mid ass players to big contracts.
Yeah, the Spurs are about 2-3 years away from serious contention.
OKC is the blueprint for doing a rebuild. Y’all have a lot of talent and it’s looking good. I hope we can get to a similar position with good draft scouting and development. It’ll take some time, but at least we have a good starting point with Wemby.
I do think a principle difference is that the Thunder have been absolutely killing it in the draft, whereas the Spurs have been merely respectable in that department: some hits, some misses, nothing resembling a home run.
