Some kids are late bloomers, he has the mechanics down for being a great passer, just needs experience and a lot of practice on other things. I think the front office knew he would be a project as well, it’s not like this was an accidental pickup. Jaime Jacques went right before and he’s older and nba ready…so these decisions have context.

I said we’ll have to wait and see, but I’m not optimistic. I’m actually probably closer to neutral, but what really puts me over the edge is his shooting. He wasn’t a good shooter in college and this was known well before the draft. Guys like that can pan out, no doubt, but it is a monumental risk. I don’t have any stats on this, but prospects who weren’t good shooters in college and don’t develop it in the NBA seem to be the most common type of bust for picks outside the top 7-8.

During the draft, I was a firm believer that we should have made a concerted effort to trade up to 15 once Kobe Bufkin fell, and even at our pick I was absolutely certain our pick should have been Brandin Podziemski or Cam Whitmore rather than JHS, specifically Podziemski.

I’m sure the scouting department had their reasons, but I have seen nothing so far to indicate that JHS has a higher floor or ceiling than either of them, and his fit was always clearly the clunkiest.

I think JHS will be fine. I don’t think he will be a star but let’s give him some time to develop. He has good tools and looks like he has a high understanding of the game. He needs some time to get used to the NBA speed. Lets see what he looks like at the end of this year.

I’d advise people who have no idea about scouting read Sam vec reports on the athletic , jhs was mocked routinely 13-17. Considering both bufkin n Wallace were off the board he was the correct choice ( as well as Hawkins lively n dick ,2 shooters n roll man big, heck even jet Howard a shooter was off).

Cam whitnore makes very little sense here.

Jhs strengths : size , defence , wingspan , pnr play with a big , great touch solid ft % good pull up game ( outright very elite in midrange ), relative nba ready body with his build so can defend at nba lvl soon ( I watched him strip Cade twice on the rico Haynes run shit) . He literally is the type of player this current team could use . Is only pivk Wallace over him but that’s purely for defence and to be playable early .

Weakness: turnovers, catch n shoot % . Rim pressure ( but had bad spacing in college seemed better in summer league there). His defensive upside is big and imo important considering reaves. He was also BPA imo outsude cam whit who doesn’t fit here n dropped for other concerns thst Miami n gsw passed on for guys that were projecting near 2nd rounders talent but great fit.

So we got the fit n talent ( mostly ). I’m Not saying he’s a sure fire pick but there was no one realistically better. I just hope he’s not injured or whatever , he’s also a one n done and playing pg . I imagine if it pans out he’s very useful for us by just next year even.

ALSO . Go fuckibg look how the rookies are playing outside of Wemby or lively? Most of the rookies picked much earlier also strugggled in pre season . The ones doing better tend to be older . But considering trsde potential I’d rather the better asset.

Dude sucked in summer league and preseason. He hasn’t shown he’s an NBA player at any point.
