With many GOTY awards being handed out already, what’s your take? which game release this year took your breath away? With big contenders like BG3, Alan Wake 2, Spiderman 2 ect. it’s been a great year for gaming. What are the community’s thoughts?
I can only judge from the games I have played, so it’s between Dead Space and RoboCop. I guess RoboCop. It’s an AA game from a studio that had some really rough times with the Rambo game, went through a redemption arc with the Terminator one, and now delivered a modern cult-classic. Such a refreshing game, and so faithful to the source material.
Escape from tarkov
For me it’s starfield, I’m enjoying the absolute hell out of the game, but I understand why BG3 will most likely win, can’t wait for that game to come to Xbox.
Alan Wake 2 followed closely by Aliens Dark Descent
FF16
Lies of P
Close second and third:
Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space.
Runescape. It’s been out for decades, but it’s my favorite game every year! :) And yes, I know I’m missing the point of this question lol
After just finishing it, Phantom Liberty.
But I haven’t played Baldur’s Gate 3 or Alan Wake 2 yet.
Like, released this year? Or just my top game that I played this year?
LiesOfP.
It’s the pinnacle of iterations on the Souls formula, with a unique spin. It’s really good.
Obvious choice for me - BG3.
Personal favorite - Hogwarts Legacy.
Don’t get me wrong, I love everything about BG3, (and D&D).
But my first 15 hours in Hogwarts Legacy had me feeling like a kid again.
I know it has flaws. I’m not blind to them. But that feeling, walking around Hogwarts, attending classes, learning spells, decorating my room of requirement, going to hogsmeade, rescuing a Hippogriff… There was something about that game i just can’t quantify.
Proof that this doesn’t matter.
Not one person in here mentioning Hogwarts because it’s not popular anymore as it’s 9 months old.
Super Mario Bros Wonder.
Tears Of The Kingdom. The freedom to explore such a massive and alive world while laying in bed playing on my Switch OLED is mind-blowing. The music, the art style, the attention to detail, the physics and the fact that the game didn’t release in a broken state is awesome. It’s my GOTY. BG3 does look incredible, but I don’t think it’s has the accessibility TotK has.
Final Fantasy 16
Despite the final chapter turning into side quest the video game… the build up and combat was amazing. This game made me feel excitement and enjoyment I havnt felt in decades.
