Emphasis on the offensive and the mid, amirite? Jokes aside, we are disappointing top to bottom. Here are my takes on how I think each person is doing their job on an individual level.

HC – Dennis Allen

D-: Keep doing what you’re doing, and what you’re doing is failing. It was hard not to give him an F, and I think the hope of the defense regaining its form is the only thing that held me back. At the end of the day, Allen is responsible for the failures as a team. It’s not just the record, because I do think many vastly overrate the talent on this roster. But it’s the way he goes about it day to day. The way the team is repeatedly coming out flat and getting punched in the mouth. That’s all on you and whatever you are saying in those 10-15 minutes before kickoff. Stop it.

OC – Pete Carmichael

Stat Carmichael Rank
Off YPG 337.4 12th

D-: I definitely feel at this point Carmichael has been scapegoated a bit too much. Abandoning the run this week was egregious, but I was still tempted to give Carmichael a D and Allen an F with the way the two sides of the ball have been trending recently. Either way, it sounds mostly confirmed by Underhill already between the lines that this will be his final season with the team. I think there are consistently enough open receivers running around to warrant him landing another job, and I do think that job will be in Denver.

QB – Derek Carr

Stat Carr Rank

D: Derek Carr has been really good at not throwing INTs this year. But it has become obvious that his approach is creating other limitations for the offense. There has been more than enough analysis and discussion of the analysis regarding his poor progressions, footwork and pocket presence. At this point in his career I think the only two people in the league who could fix him are Sean Payton and Andy Reid. I’m worried about the rest of his contract.

RB - Alvin Kamara

B+: It looks like Kamara still has it if he gets even a sliver of daylight. Clearly blocking has been an issue. The volume passes the eye test given the suspension. A decline is pass protection is the biggest thing holding me back from giving him an A-. His leadership has been important at times.

Flex – Taysom Hill

A+: Don’t know what else we could ask of him at this point short of playing offensive or defensive line. He is succeeding everywhere we ask him to. I think the key to getting anything out of this season and out of Carr while he is on the roster is a heavy dose of Taysom in the redzone.

RB – Jamaal Williams

Stat Williams
Att 45

Rec Yds 24

C-: Williams missed timed on IR for hamstring injury and when he has been in it has been an uphill battle for him to get good blocking, so I’m willing to give him a little benefit of the doubt here. I also think Williams is being favored over Kamara in some situations for his pass protection. Overall he has struggled to get going and prove his worth with a new team.

RB – Kendre Miller

Stat Miller
Att 28
Yards 83
YPC 3.0
Rush TD 0
Rec 9
Rec Yds 111

B-: I liked what I have seen from the rookie, especially in the passing game. He has explosiveness that we really need as Kamara ages. Like the other backs, he hasn’t been blessed with many clear running lanes.

WR – Chris Olave

Stat Olave Rank

Ctch% 59.6% T-150th
Drops 2 NA
Drop% 2.1% T-42nd

D+: After a strong start to the season with 302 yards in first three games, he has had just 355 yards in his last seven. I do think it was a bit unfair of him to be scapegoated like he was on national television. But between his effort, losing balls in the lights, and not being on the same page as the QB everything that could go wrong has. He has to be the WR1, it can’t be Thomas. Here’s to hoping the yips fade fast.

WR – Michael Thomas

Ctch% 60.9% T-143rd
Drops 3 NA
Drop% 4.7% T-96th

A-: Thomas is playing as well as we could have hoped for at this point. He has also been the most important leader in the locker room. I wish he had gained just a half step more in his recovery, but I really don’t think we could ask for anything more.

WR – Rashid Shaheed

Stat Shaheed Rank
Rec 31 T-72nd
Rec Yds 525 31st

Rec TD 3 T-34th
Targets 50 T-60th
Ctch% 62.0% 139th
Drops 1 NA
Drop% 2.0% T-37th

B+: Shaheed has been nothing short of electric when he is in the right place at the right time. I think there have been times when he is probably the odd man out on knowing the playbook and being a receiver out of position as has been alluded to. He will also be an RFA after this season, and I think a lot of teams will have their eye on him.

TE – Juwan Johnson

| Stat | Johnson | |:-- | :-- | :–| | Rec | 14 | | Rec Yds| 97 | | Yards/G | 16.2 | | Y/R | 6.9 | | Rec TD | 1 | | Targets | 22 | | Ctch% | 63.6% | | Drops | 0 | | Drop% | 0.0% |

D+: Much like Williams, Johnson got paid this summer but has either been injured or very underwhelming. It is imperative that Johnson turn it around lest he become the latest in a line of poor contract decisions.

TE – Foster Moreau

| Stat | Moreau | |:-- | :-- | :–| | Rec | 11 | | Rec Yds| 115 | | Yards/G | 14.4 | | Y/R | 10.5 | | Rec TD | 1 | | Targets | 12 | | Ctch% | 91.7% | | Drops | 1 | | Drop% | 8.3% |

D: Tough one for me. So many are rooting for him because of his roots and his story. I do think when on the field he has perhaps outplayed Johnson a bit, and the numbers reflect that. But that drop left us all speechless.

TE – Jimmy Graham

| Stat | Graham | |:-- | :-- | :–| | Rec | 1 | | Rec Yds| 8 | | Yards/G | 1.1 | | Y/R | 8.0 | | Rec TD | 1 | | Targets | 2 | | Ctch% | 50.0% | | Drops | 1 | | Drop% | 50.0% |

D: Another bad grade for what I thought was the deepest TE room in franchise history. I mean Jimmy Graham is our TE4, that’s good right? Right? I’m glad he had the TD, but he dropped his only other target. Luckily it was in a blow out win against the Patriots. But he hasn’t seen the field since.

LT – Trevor Penning

5 Penalties

F: Finally. Finally an F. I held back on so many others, but I saved this one for you Trevor. At times I feel like everything wrong with our season traces back to him. Then I remember Derek Carr has zero career playoff wins and we were DOA. But man, this Penning pick is already surpassing Jonathan Sullivan.

LT/LG – Andrus Peat

2 Penalties

C+: Perhaps I am being a little too generous here. But I think we have asked a lot of Peat in his ninth season to go back to LT full time for essentially the first time since his rookie year. He is clearly getting beat with speed, and I do wonder if we would be best served with Erving or Hurst at LT and Peat back at his now natural position of LG. All things considered however, I think he has done a decent job, and the line was worse without him.

LG/LT – James Hurst

2 Penalties

C-: Hurst is clearly better than Penning, but that says more about Penning. I don’t think Hurst is a better guard than he is tackle, which is part of why I suggested the flip above. I am glad we have Hurst on this contract to fill a gap. I would not mind seeing what Erving could do for a game or two though.

C – Erik McCoy

3 Penalties

C: McCoy has probably been our best OL this year, for what it is worth. For that reason alone he gets the best grade which will be a C. JT O’Sullivan was right when he said it is the worst time ever to play this position.

RG – Cesar Ruiz

0 Penalties

C-: The hope that Ruiz would lock down the right side as Ramczyk aged gracefully is not coming to fruition thus far. But he should get some credit for being penalty free 10 games into the season.

RT – Ryan Ramczyk

1 Penalty

D: I don’t know how to sugar coat this, but Ramczyk has been a huge disappoint in his seventh season. He is getting beat like a drum and whiffing on blocks like I have never seen him do. Outside of Carr, he is the most disappointing player on offense. I fear he may never be the same after his last knee injury.

I think you were a bit harsh on olave, not really his fault that his QB throws him some shit balls or forgets the play altogether and throws the ball away, then pretends he was targeting olave

Agree on Carr. The odds that he’ll fix his long term issues (pocket presence, extending plays with his legs like he’s physically able to) are very slim. Even if he does, there’s much cheaper “reclamation projects” they could have. I know he has an out after next year, but 2 years of Carr is a huge albatross that some were completely against in the offseason.
