Our passing is inconsistent, but our run game is just dead. I’m not even sure we can fairly evaluate Jones and Dillon because they seem to only have a yard of space before they’re met by contact. For as much as our young receivers have struggled, our young tight ends seem to be having an even harder time when it comes to run-blocking.
Blocking. Go look up a highlight of Dillon’s 40 yard run from this weekend and just watch the offensive linemen. If we can consistently block like that, we can run the ball well.
Teach the fundamentals on the Oline. Need to improve the Oline
The running game has been getting better.
Four 100+ yard rush games this season, all have been in the last 4 games. 3 of 4 highest team rush totals in the last 4 games.
Run blocking has been improving. Elgton Jenkins was out and then playing injured for a bit, he looks all the way back. Musgrave and Kraft have been a bit more comfortable.
Dillon has been better. His own averages are much better over the last month (Minnesota game with only 6 carries one exception) than than over the first 4 weeks of the season.
The trends are all good. However I think they’d be running even better with Ryhan playing RG. They looked great running the ball for his one big drive against the Rams. Maybe they don’t like him as much in pass pro though, because the coaches seem unwilling to play him if they have any other choice.
I’d like to see a few more end arounds to Watson. Last year he only had 7 carries, but that’s close to once per game if we exclude the games he missed or was limited due to injury, and he had two TDs and a few other solid runs. The more teams have to follow him horizontally the more vulnerable they should be to runs up the middle when GB fakes the jet sweep.
