Hello,

I’m going to buy one of these as an upgrade from a 12th gen. For 90% gaming usage which do you think would be a better way to go? There is only a $180.00 price difference between the two. I’m going to be pairing this with an MSI Z790 EDGE DDR4 motherboard with 4000 CL14 4x8 ram. I also currently already have a corsair 360 AIO. Does the 14900k have a better memory controller? I’ve also read that APO is only available currently on the 14900k? I’m not sure if that’s accurate or not? Which one would you guys go with? Thx

Also do you think my Z790 motherboard has enough VRM’s or are there any other issues that would prevent it from properly running a 14900k? thx

there is not much point upgrading from 12th gen rn, but it really depends which games you play and if you run many intensive tasks. 14700K should play most games smooth like butter and with great fps, but if you really want to 14900K would probably last a little longer

I’m going to use my 12th gen kn a different computer. From everything I’ve watched/heard the 13 an 14th gen are huge upgrades from 12th gen?

Why not get a 13900k? The different is very minimal.

wont make an iota of a difference. get the cheapest one.

a ddr4 platform will though. 12gen with ddr5 is faster than 14th gen with ddr4… so you re wasting your money on ddr4

I already have DDR4 and a motherboard so you obviously didn’t read the post. And no there is not currently any DDR5 ram faster than DDR4 4000 CL14 that will run stable

If you think $180 is not that much money then get the 14900K. You won’t see that much difference over the 12900K in gaming but it’s not about that is it? I upgraded from a 12600K to a 14700K and see quite a big difference in CPU heavy games. All cores running at 5.5GHz is quite impressive.

Cpu is less important at higher res, and with weaker graphics cards.

If you have a top tier card (4080, 4090 or 7900xtx) and you game at 1080 you will see a big jump in many games. But at 4k the only way you will see much difference is with a 4090.

I don’t see a point in upgrading from what you have to a 13 or a 14 gen chip. I feel you are looking to just spend money to feel validated and that is fine. Wouldn’t be the last.
