Starters were meh but our bench looked astounding and it’s only going to get better with Jrich and Highsmith coming back. On the flip side we also played one of the worst teams last season, so it’s going to get tougher going forward.
Jaime Jaquez Jr: His baskets were nice but everything else I saw from him this game was even nicer, his passing, defense, pushing the ball, IQ. He looked like a veteran, not like a rookie playing his first game. I would say this guy could be our oversized starting PG but I think he plays too similar to Jimmy and Bam that Spo doesn’t want them to really be playing them 3 at the same time.
Kyle Lowry: I don’t mind him not shooting, but he didn’t do anything else this game to give me any confidence. He should be out of the rotation if he continues to play like this. The problem is we don’t have a true PG and he is a big name and contract that we need to find a way to trade so he will still get minutes.
Thomas Bryant: Very impressed with what I saw with him. He plays big and has a lot of hustle, all we can ask for a backup center. I think against slower less athletic Centers he can even feast offensively.
Duncan Robinson: Not even gonna talk about his shooting, but he improved so much in every aspect of the game. He actually contributes to much more than just shooting.
Tyler Herro: Man I’m not going to lie, he was the biggest disappointment for me last night. I was ready for him to prove the haters wrong and come in with fire in his eyes, but it seems like he was trying TOO hard. I don’t mind him shooting the open shots, but he was trying to force so much. This offense is built on ball movement and it’s like every time he had the ball it was stagnant. He needs to stop looking to score every time the ball touches his hands. Make a quick move, if it’s not there move the ball. I wish he could come off the bench because the role fits him so well but I think were just at the point where he would refuse it and thinks he’s better than that role.
Caleb Martin: Looked pretty bad out there but I’m going to blame it on his injury/rust/just a bad game. No way he regressed that badly the way he was playing last postseason.
Nikola Jovic: Couldn’t even sniff a minute. I know everyone’s saying he’s not ready, but how many players don’t play any significant minutes going into year 2 and actually become a useful player? I don’t know many… and I don’t know how he’s going to really improve much during the season if he couldn’t the hole the offseason. I know it’s only game 1 but if he keeps getting DNP’s I’m gonna start losing confidence in him ever having a solid role for us.
Starters: Jrich, Herro, Butler, Love, Bam
Bench: JJJ, Highsmith, Duncan, Caleb, Bryant - I know Lowry’s gonna get bench minutes but all these guys are so much better.
On paper those lineups ain’t too shabby. Ready to run it back!
