I feel like if we said before this season what was your opinion most people would say he is a great defensive head coach, and right now I feel like everyone’s opinion has changed just because we are 5-5 with tons of injuries.

But in your opinion how is McDermott as a coach actually?

Personally, I think he is a good coach, I just do not think you can win a superbowl with him. You can win a superbowl with him as your Co-ordinator but when it came down to him to get one stop 13 seconds happened.

Does anyone remember the 1988 Olympic Games? The 100 meter dash finals? Ben Johnson raced, Carl Lewis, Calvin Smith and future gold medalist Linford Christie. Ben Johnson got off his blocks so fast and won with a 9.79 race time. It obliterated the world record. He won gold and we all thought that record would never be broken. Not 24hrs later Johnson’s gold metal was taken away from him. Turns out he was doping.

This story I think exemplifies what the Sean McDermott era has been in Buffalo. A great start, and a seemingly great coach covered up by doping (Josh Allen, Trea White, Matt Malano, Stephon Diggs etc.).

Some of the things that have helped him are his people skills, care for his players and expecting the best from said players. What he needs to learn are his in game decisions, adjustments to what the other team is doing. Basically the majority of what a head coach is. He also struggles to play the best players over seniority, and consistency in his discipline ie sitting Cook and not Davis Monday night.

Will Sean become a great head coach someday? Maybe, but his time here in Buffalo was done at the end of last year.
