take this with a grain of salt, I’ve been playing on and off since 2014 and have never enjoyed rank enough to properly tell you guys where I lie (the last time I played rank was at LEAST 2019 and I might’ve made it somewhere in gold I honestly don’t remember). I love playing this game, but the toxicity and sometimes length of game time drive me nuts. Sometimes I just wanna play this game quickly and easily, load in play my newest skin (atm its coven nami), sweat so much I lose 20 pounds, lose and hop onto vs. AI, and relax.

Usually, to do this I play Draft Pick because it’s just that, but I can also say ‘Hey I don’t really feel like playing against blitzcrank tonight’. But with the inclusion of Quickplay, I’ve been basically playing that nonstop since I got the battle pass. It’s a really quick queue compared to draft and honestly I just like the freedom of going “I want to play x champion” without the fear of it getting banned.

HOWEVER.

There are so many weird bugs and problems that arise with this game mode that I feel like it’s not even worth playing anymore, outside of when I’m desperate for one quick game. Here’s just a general run down of some normal issues that come up when you play quickplay

  1. Your runes don’t save when you load into quickplay, choose your champion, and click play. It automatically goes to what is considered the 1st rune page on the recommended tab even if you have a custom rune page set up for that specific champion.
  2. Your summoner spells don’t save, you may pick to load in with TP and flash, but load in as a top laner with smite and flash instead, there’s nothing to indicate that your runes change from the queue screen, and in queue, you can’t change anything from the champions u pick.
  3. people just wanna play the champions they wanna play regardless of the lane. On my first day first match of quickplay, we had a Yasuo jg with ignite who just duo’d top with our top laner. The load times for a game sometimes are so quick you don’t notice these things until you literally load into the game itself and are instantly kicked in the head with the fact you have no jg.
  4. I think the most egregious part is that the matchmaking is absolutely horrible, like that’s the only part of blind play that somehow made it into quickplay. For some reason, you can play with a first-time-ever player against a Plat+ matchup, just to watch them get their shit rocked for 12 minutes straight and be flamed by everyone on their team for not knowing how to aim and walk. Even worse than that, there’s BOTS in quickplay. And not just one or two, but like one on each team kind of nonsense, they literally will feed lanes then immediately press no or stall out a surrender for xp. This creates a game thats both toxic and useless to any player with a brain because you’re stuck in a 15+ minute game with no way to proceed until the enemy allows you to leave, and who’s to say that report you made at the end of that match will even matter?

I think for quickplay to survive, Riot needs to refine some small elements of it to better suit its player base (me, i’m the player base). Allow us to change our runes, skins, summs, AND wards in the queue while we wait just like in draft play, allow us to see our teammates before the client warps us into the loading screen, whether that be in the party screen client side or a quicker peak before the game starts, and most importantly please fix the matchmaking to be something closer to draft play where at least there I feel more on-level with my teammates, even if i’m usually the lowest elo/level/mastery player.

I have the mentality of “I need to end on a win” so when it’s late and I just wanna win so I can go to sleep I go co-op vs. ai and basically go you’re ending on a win whether you like it or not cuz going to sleep on a loss streak with low morale feels horrible ngl
