In another thread, there’s discussion going on about how we dodged multiple bullets by not bringing in Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson, but at the time, there were significant voices that screamed for one of them. If reports from this past offseason are to be believed, we were close to landing Wilson for Hurts as well (thank god Mr. Unliiiiimited didn’t want to come to Philly).

So let’s out ourselves and confess to some moves we wanted the team to make in the past that we’re now glad they didn’t make (and remind us why none of us are capable of doing Jeffrey’s and Howie’s job). I’ll start with a few of mine:

  • 2021 off-season: with Doug gone, I wanted Howie out as well. It was clear he’d lost his mojo by then, and I wondered what kind of dirt he had on Lurie to be able to keep his job.

  • 2016 off-season: I thought moving up to #2 to take Wentz would backfire on us, seeing as how we gave up so much capital to get him and leave us short in our ability to build around him. Two seasons later, I couldn’t be happier to eat my thoughts.

  • 2015 off-season: I wanted us to move up to grab Mariota. With Foles shipped out, I thought Mariota’s familiarity with Chip meant we should pay the price to grab him and make him the future of the team. It was this non-move that convinced me of our “mistake” in 2016 to get Wentz.

Yours?

I sort of wanted Howie out after he drafted Raegor. Glad he quickly learned his lesson though.
