It is obvious that the twin tower experiment in MIN is not working as well. They are currently rolling. But KAT seems to be the odd man out. I prefer that we pay OG and we know we can’t really afford to pay both OG and PS. At least we get KAT to replace JP. He’s been unfortunately awful for Toronto this year (trust me, I have him on my fantasy team, I know the pain). MIN gets more defense and versatility at the 4 spot for them and TOR get a productive 5 that can space the floor for SB and OG. Currently, Toronto’s top 3 players’ strengths and areas they operate overlaps with each other. With this trade, it at least changes and not as much overlap. I think KAT’s defensive weaknesses will be helped by the versatility of the wings. Potential starting 5. 1 GTJ 2 OG 3 Barnes 4 Precious 5 KAT
Why. That’s not making the team any better. If you traded Poeltl for KAT then yeah.
KAT ia a better fit than Poeltl/would clear the way for Gary at the 2 to start and Scottie at the 4 and he’s arguably the best player you could get in a hypothetical trade…however there are two major problems with a KAT swap
1 - It needs to be a 3 teamer because the fit for the Wolves is not great given Siakam is a streaky shooter from outside and would also clog the paint with Gobert being a non-shooter
2 - You have to move Jakob Poeltl and the return you’re going to get him in a “fire sale” move ie the league knows you aren’t keeping him and KAT so you’re going to get pretty menial offers from, say, the Clippers, Pelicans or Grizzlies - all teams that could use a rim protecting center
There’s also the salary problem given how much KAT is getting paid/will be paid but frankly that’s minor if it all clicks with Towns ie the team is better than it currently is as constructed
then you require the front office to still trade poeltl
