Valve honestly did an amazing job with the waves of Limited Edition releases. I’ve seen the average price on eBay drop from $1100 to $800/750 in the past hour.

If you have credit on your eBay account from any of the promotions they’ve done over the years, this might be a good chance to snag a steam deck OLED LE under retail price haha. You’d have to worry about Warranty possibly depending on your region. But for a lot of regions you’ll start the Warranty when you register the device to your account as long as your the first.

Also this is great for people outside the US and Canada. Means you can get the LE without a huge mark up!

Valve has handled this amazingly! This mid refresh is more than we could have asked for and they are allowing a ton of people to order a limited console. Props!!! Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, take notes!

Shouldn’t they be able to just cancel their order?

They scared the shit out of me but I think it’s so cool there’s more than just a handful of them.

I think it’s fine to sell one unit overseas, but if you do, don’t be crazy. I think a 20-30% mark up is reasonable, especially if it’s an LE to say the UK or Australia where it’s hard to get them.

Don’t think steam decks are even available to Australia outside of the Grey markets x x.

10% goes to eBay in taxes.

I reckon international shipping would be customs cost (tax) + about 70-80$

To make it worth it should be a profit of $150 IMO.

I paid $720 after sales tax for my LE.

I’d have to sell it for $950 and charge shipping cost to make $100 profit. That’s roughly 11% margin, and 30% markup would only be $882, that would be $44 gained at 5% margin.

I’m keeping mine but just as an example.

As someone who was freaking out trying to order a 512GB OLED earlier (got mine after 26 minutes >_>), I will say Valve is the only gaming manufacturer who manages to shut down scalpers.

    It’s pretty nice.

LOL, you can still buy it thru valve. But this is for international buyers. Prices down to $949. After eBay fees and shipping, scalper would make very little money!!

At $949 that’s about $100 in profit if they charge shipping.

$949 includes shipping…$70 at the most after fees, purchase taxes, etc. plus risk of shipping issues or headaches with bad buyer. Not worth it. Valve stuck it to scalpers.

I wish we could all bond together and collectively let their stock rot to hell.

than offer them 12$ when the deck 2 releases.

Need to think about RMA for valve.

It’d be a pain outside North America.

Also, other countries, different warranty laws.

It’s a calculated risk. Normal steam deck oled, I suppose they have good enough systems in place

I now don’t mind the store screw up. Thanks to the illusion of how limited it was, now there are a bunch of scalpers left taking a loss.

I saw one yesterday listed at about $1,900 but today it dropped to $1,100. Just insane…

edit: There are new listings up showing a screenshot of their confirmed order and the price they paid. These people have no shame.
