It’s better for people who play video games to have a Nintendo; hell for average people but haven for geniuses,
than it is to have a BioWare; hell for geniuses, haven for irresponsible management and incompetent people.
You don’t want a game company to cultivate the kinds of people who come in with no ambition but to leave on time every single day and escape the company that they collect paychecks from. We should be happy that there are companies who thrive on having the best employees they can find who are willing to go an extra mile for good work, and believe in always over-achieving. Do they burn out? Of course, but there are companies out there for people who aren’t over-achievers and we shouldn’t cheer it on when people who honestly don’t belong in a high-prestige group go in and feel like imposters. It’s tough shit, but that’s how life is. You can’t be part of every club.
