IF the Lions finish 13-4 AND win a playoff game, would there be a case against MCDC for COTY?
I think ending the 30 year playoff win drought would clinch it.
Thoughts?
Also FTP, FTB and FTV.
Feels like it’ll be him or DeMarco Ryan, just depends on if the voters go with the guy who overachieved or the guy who built over the course of a few years.
Daboll won it last year for turning the Giants around and getting them a playoff win (I know, it sounds hilarious in retrospect.)
If MCDC turned around the least successful franchise in sports history and gets a playoff win, I say he’ll 100% win. Even winning the division makes it a high chance to win it.
Campbell or Ryans.
A case against him? Probably not. In that scenario, I think he’d have as good a case as anyone, especially if 13-4 is good enough to outright win the NFC and secure homefield throughout the playoffs.
I think it’s still possible that there could be a good case made for other coaches to win it as well, but that’s not really a case against Campbell per se.
I think if the lions finish as the #1 seed in the NFC Campbell is a lock of coach of the year. If they finish the year strong and end up the #2 or #3 seed he would be the odds on favorite. I think what would put Campbell ahead of Ryans or OConnell is it really would be an award for what Campbell has done over the past three years. Taking the lions from the bottom to what looks like a long term contender. This includes the staffing and player decisions he made in his tenure and his substantial improvement in game management and in game decisions.
If he wins the Super Bowl I’d put him top for COTY, but if not then Demeco Ryans would definitely win if he manages to win the division.
Coach of the Year is a funny thing. Yeah, Demeco Ryans, Mike McDaniel, Mike Tomlin, Kevin O’Connell are all interesting nominees. Campbell has the advantage of being the face of a major culture shift and has had a couple years of build-up to this moment. He’s also well-liked around the league for his in-game coaching decisions and his personality. COTY is a regular season award, so playoff win wouldn’t be taken into consideration. I think if Lions win the division, Campbell will win it.
The Lions are not finishing 13-4 lol
As much as I hate to say it what about Minnesota? If they keep winning jay dobbs they pile be a contender
I think you meant 15-2. We’re not losing another game this year.
Win the division he’s a lock for COTY.
Mike Tomlin is going to win 13 games with a team that is objectively terrible. The Steelers rest of season schedule contains TWO top 50 quarterbacks: Kyler Murray and Geno Smith (I’m assuming the Ravens don’t have anything to play for week 18, and trot out Tyler Huntley)
Demeco Ryans is going to win 10 games with a team that won 3 all of last year.
