I bought a 96R Kirkland battery from Costco for a 2012 Escape back in September 2021. I’ve only been driving the car about once a week recently, and I noticed the battery has been dying on me suddenly. I took it for a 3h drive yesterday on the highway and checked the voltage of it today and noticed it has a resting voltage of only 12.43V.

Is it time for a new battery? I could get a new one for free under Costco’s generous battery warranty program. I feel like taking it for a long drive on the highway for 3h should have charged it a little more than that. I do live in a colder climate in Canada too. As soon as the temperature dropped recently it seems to be struggling a bit more as is expected.

Being discharged is not a warranty condition. A battery is bad when it is fully charged, and no longer holding it’s rated CCA.

Get it to an electrical shop and get the vehicle checked out, including the possibility of a parasitic draw.
