“Despite training at a high level for a few weeks my medical team has advised it would be a risk to compete in the final tournaments of the ATP season. It has been very difficult to accept this but I need to do what is best for next season and my long term career. I will take this opportunity to reset, re-build and start the year fully fit and healthy. It has been an extremely tough year but I’m looking forward to a full and successful season in 2024. I will stay in close contact with the Davis Cup captain and make myself available to support team Italy in any way I can for the Finals. Your support has and continues to help me through some very tough times - thank you so much. I really appreciate it.”

He’s probably done as a top 10 player, it sucks but at least he had a great 3-year stretch 2019-mid 2022. Everything just started going to shit when he tested positive for COVID right before Wimby last year, he was even going in as a favorite after winning Queens. Hope he can catch a break from injuries and get another chance at a deep run in a big tournament, lady luck owes him one.

If he is healthy I can see him in the top 10 again. He has the game, but can his body hold that is the question.

To be top 10 you need to be healthy and consistent for at least 60-70% of the season. I can’t see him being fit for more than 40-50%, and he’s not getting any younger. I so hope I’m wrong.
