Where’s Mido?
I could never buy a Zenith because of the word association to those crappy old tube TVs
And whenever I see Christopher Ward I think of that annoying IT guy that’s getting his first real watch because he realized that his Apple Watch didn’t actually help him get in shape. They’re interesting but to me they’re the Skechers of the watch world
Just my input into the few things I disagree with. But my favorite brands (Omega, Nomos, Oris, Junghans, Hamilton) are in here and exactly where I’d put them, so great job.
I like this list because all I own are grand seiko , omega and rolex.
$200k in Manhattan vs $200k in St. Louis are two very different things.one puts omega in play and the other does not.
After the incredible amount of reactions and feedback from the last tier list I created, I wanted to do an update based on comments that changed my mind and, hopefully, a better structuring of the tiers!
I put it in the description, but a reminder that this isn’t a tier list to decide which brand is the most valuable, makes the best watch, is the best bang for buck. It’s about what watches
people in a specific situation (which I imagine a fair number of watch enthusiasts fall into) should consider!Argue away!
Citizen. Seiko. Orient. The holy grail.
I knew I forgot something, sorry Citizen!
I feel like Nomos should be in the tier above. They are cheaper but not cheap, especially for the mechanical ones. But their quality is outstanding. My Club Sport is sublime.
I definitely considered it! The reason I didn’t is because I don’t think it has the brand value of the others. Watch enthusiasts know Nomos and that’s about it. Lovely watches though!! At the top, I wanted to find a balance of the quality and cost but also some amount of brand perception. Not hype crap or overt display of wealth, but also some amount of I can afford nice things. Hopefully that made sense!
Putting Bell & Ross with Movado . . . lol
Last time I got flak for putting Movado way down low! And I like Bell and Ross but also not sure that they’re a great value play at the prices they charge.
Where is Armitron? They’re the little still American watch brand that often can.
I know actual upper-middle class professional people. Know what they wear? Stuff like low-end Timex and low-end Citizen. They’d find a low-end Tissot extravagant, and have no idea what is more expensive than a Rolex.
I think Tissot has to be bang for back along with Hamilton etc. the PRX and new Chemin Des Tourelles, Le Locle, Gentleman ie powermatic 80s etc., have stepped things up a notch.
Certina?
Panerai… crazy. Overpriced junk
I don’t care for them either, especially for the cost! Though, my buddy has a Radiomir GMT Alarm from the early 2000s and it’s very cool!
What are ‘whelming watches’?
haha watches that give you value but also cost what you’d expect them to. They aren’t a great value proposition but also aren’t offensively expensive.
I feel like that’s slightly harsh on Tissot? Maybe somewhere between whelming and bang for buck
While they have a few respectable models in their lineup, it’s weird seeing Bulova next to them.
JLC needs to be in the same tier as Patek and Lange, I don’t care what anybody says
