Hi everyone,

I’m having a hard time troubleshooting an issue that I’ve been having since the last few days on my W11 install. Every few minutes or so, my CPU usage spikes to 100% and slows my computer down to a crawl (I have a 12700K CPU, but it still stutters like crazy). Games will be choppy, and I can’t even use a simple browser for a few seconds while it happens. According to task manager, the culprit is the infamous svchost, and more specifically the State Repository service.

I read a lot of contradicting information about this, some saying it’s related to Microsoft Edge, others to a different programs. I forced a clean reinstall of Edge and still encountered the issue so I’m not sure it’s related, at least in my case. According to services.msc, State Repository is a dependency of “Gaming Services”, which I believe I use since I have installed both the Windows Game Bar and other Xbox/gaming related features.

I have tried updating them through the Microsoft Store, but it turns out I have the most recent version of these programs already.

The only thing I know is that this started after either the 23H2 update which I installed last Tuesday, or after another update to these gaming services, also installed earlier this week.

UPDATE: haven’t encountered this issue in a few hours so I hope I managed to fix it. What I did was simply force a clean uninstall/reinstall of all the “gaming services” related apps, chiefly the Windows Game Bar and all the Xbox apps. I guess some files were corrupted and caused a loop every few minutes.
