Obvious Spurs bias aside (yes, yes, we didnt stand a chance), is there any real merit to this tournament? Say the spurs (or any team) win this, but then miss the playoffs or lose in the first round, would we really care about winning this?
The play-in tournament was well received because it actually had an impact on playoff contention, but this feels like someone trying to hype up something with no real value.
Eh maybe it’s still too early to tell, but hey, at least they tried something to make the early season more interesting.
Y’all just wanna complain about everything. No one cares about the nba until after the Super Bowl (not me, I watch all 82 spurs games) so I think this is awesome to get more attention on the league.
Just another pointless gimmick by Silver.
I like it, and I think the true colors of people show when they are complaining before the elimination rounds even begin. Teams are already playing harder during the group stage. Single elimination games are going to change some minds. Maybe some adjustments will have to be made next year but at least they’re trying something to give us good competitive baskeball before the playoffs.
Tradition takes time to materialize. Also $500K price for the winner is huge. So many people are nor aware that that money go to everyone including coaching staffs. For the star players, $500K isn’t much. For assistant coaches or two-way players, that money is huge.
