For COTY, the recipe for this is a coach that comes into a rebuilding franchise and wins more games than expected, bonus points if it’s with a rookie QB. I think that COTY is going to go to Demeco Ryans this year, he took a poverty franchise, made some big moves to get some talent on the roster and has made a competent defense and a challenging offense.

For Nick, I think that the Eagles success works against him right now, and his first year we weren’t very good at all. His best shot was his second year, but Daboll did make the Giants look competent enough that they thought giving Daniel Jones a long term contract was viable, and that’s more impressive than anything another coach has done last year haha.

But ultimately it’s very much a narrative driven award, and people aren’t really looking to hand it out to the consistent performing head coaches and Sirianni is now in that echelon. I also think it hurts his chances because he doesn’t openly play call.
