I just spent some time searching this sub and see no mention of AR II. There was a post almost two months ago critical of him and that’s it. Let me add some other facts.

The Steelers got a D- on the NFLPA player survey. There were poor marks for training room, locker room and weight room. Players don’t feel investments are made in the facilities. This is supposed to be a world class organization.

It’s been widely reported that the Steelers NEVER get rid of a coach until their contract expires. You need an innovative OC to help your young QB? Well tough shit we ain’t playing Matt Canada and another OC. Live with it.

Hey look, one of the best defensive coaches falls in our lap last year in Brian Flores. Well too bad because we only promote cheap options from within so take him Vikings. We’re good.

I like Omar Kahn, hopefully he’s great. But again just another example of promoting from within.

There is zero investment made in this team. It’s become insular as fuck with no outside ideas or influence to penetrate its outmoded thinking.

Move over Bob Nutting, you have competition for the worst owner in the city. The only difference is Nutting didn’t have his father be one of the best owners in the history of pro sports.

I read an article somewhere where Tomlin said he told Art that Flores was really good, he liked him a lot, and was keeping a eye on him for the future, and Arts resource was something like “ok, good, I’ll talk to you about it later” and that was it. He never spoke to Tomlin about it again.

Agreed , there’s so many former players that talk so highly about the Rooney’s but I feel like that ended after Dan Rooney. Art II seems to care about the bottom line only

You must be blind then, this sub’s been blaming Art for just about anything under the sun to shift blame away from Tomlin anytime anyone dares hold him accountable for the team he’s coached for 17 years. According to people here Tomlin doesn’t hire his own coordinators, would be told to kick rocks if he insisted Canada be fired and is mute in offensive meetings. Tomlin is our DC by the way, it’s why Flores wasn’t interested in sticking around. Tomlin wouldn’t continue to sign extensions with a team that doesn’t allow him full rein of his staff, especially when he’d have teams lining up for the opportunity to run the show. If Tomlin wanted Canada gone, he’d be gone and you’re lying to yourself if you think otherwise.

I agree he does deserve blame. I don’t get why the front office is so cheap w/ coaches/coordinators

Because unlike basically all the other owners around the league, the team is their primary source of income.

I bash him and Tomlin constantly and get attacked like I went after two Shriners hospital kids, those two are the power behind all the decisions of recent years that have us here. Khan is new to the job and seems to have a clue. The Rooney family has always been cheap but junior takes it to absurd levels. We all know how stubborn to the point of idiocy to keep Canada just to avoid paying him, and he’s not even a highly paid O.C.! But the fact our player facilities are ranked at the bottom of the league is a fucking disgrace. Junior and Tomlin both suck dick

Tim Lewis was the last coordinator fired before the contract was up and that was a Bill decision. And that was in 2004 so who knows where this team history would be if that didn’t happen.

But your point still stands. There is no way Art II is cool with his money being wasted by ineptitude with Canada.

Cowher seemed to have waaaay more leeway when it came to hiring and firing of coaches. It’s absolutely remarkable how not one NFL HC or major coordinator has come from a Mike Tomlin tree (correct me if I’m wrong).

And while AR II took over in 2003, Dan still had a lot of influence I’m sure. It was also rumored that Cowher’s resignation may have been influenced by not seeing eye-to-eye with AR II. But admittedly that’s speculation.

        I’m not surprised.

Im never to hung up on whether the NFL coach has a coaching tree or not because to be honest there’s going to be a lot of overlap between different coaching trees anyway.

The biggest problem I have is the threshold for below average results. If Art II is so insistent on his bottom line you’d think he’d make sure that he was doing everything he could to make sure his HC and GM had the resources to do what they needed to do.

If he is the reason why they don’t fire coordinators mid contract he has to understand the problems that cause when it’s obvious it’s time to move on. Him letting Tomlin keep Canada for another year only hurts him both in the short and long term.

He doesn’t need to meddle with his coaches like Jerry does but he does need to protect them from themselves.
