I want to ask the hardcore Porsche guys here a question:
Porsche and 911 in particular are considered the pinnacle of automotive engineering excellence. But is there something you miss from other cars you have owned or driven? Is there a car brand that does something a little better? For e.g. steering feel of a Lotus or transmission shifts of a Ferrari or something like that?
I will leave out the obvious: I know Porsche is not known for luxury of a Rolls Royce/Bentley… So :)
Reliability of a Toyota V6
Basic options included as standard.
Toyota has ridiculous reliability and durability. Top Gear had an old SR5 truck mounted on their wall they were able to get running with a set of “basic tools” after putting it on a roof of a building and the demolition team blowing up the building.
go into the infotainment screen to reset the maintenance intervals.
seriously, on any car with such a system i should be getting all kinds of information. non of this “emission system” problem. tell my which specific items are not operating in spec so i can change out the part.
anyone want to join a class action right to repair lawsuit?
Back up cameras. I have a better one in my BMWs and Hyundai compared to my Porsche.
Hyundai makes cars that are easier to afford.
Their rear view cameras are from recycled 1997 Nokia screen technology
Creating an artificial super high level of demand by limiting production.
Hard to pick on company that does it better b/c they’re always in a state of flux with redesigns…but Porsche controls suck, particularly menu logic. Most of the Germans are bad; Audi may be the best, M-B currently the worst, though VW is really trying hard to catch up to M-B
Maybe Uconnect is best though the new system in Tonale and Hornet is pretty crappy. GM May actually have one of the best UIs and controls in the industry now.
Visceral styling; Italians do it way better. Sound: my 996 sounded like a vacuum cleaner until I put Fister cans on it. Reliability: the Japanese brands rule this arena, even in their performance cars I think. (Mazda rotary engines aside.)
