Green Bay likes consistently. They kept Barry last year because the defense improved at the end of the season. This last game was like fools gold. Chargers made a lot of mistakes from drops to fumbles on key plays. It does worry me Lafleur praised Barry. I expected 30+ points given up but glad we won.

Barry needs to go the defense is too inconsistent. The team has plays that aren’t being utilized to their best ability such as Jaire and the CBs in soft zone when they are better in man.

Don’t be surprised if Barry is back when he should be gone. I’d like them to do well but don’t want Barry back.

I think the biggest bailout we got was on the Anthony Johnson non-targeting call in the endzone. If they had flagged him for contact with a defenseless receiver I would have felt it was the right call based on how they have been “protecting” players. With that said there were way too many bailouts from randomness for me to feel good about the defense. Herbert looked like Michael Vick out there.

I too was a bit concerned hearing Matt praise Barry in his post game press conference. The chargers absolutely self destructed to even give us a shot at that game. I will give the defense credit for a beautiful 3 and out in the drive right after the Doubs TD. They had a chance to seal the game and did their part. Unfortunately the offense let them down and gave the chargers another shot, which they promptly threw in the garbage.

While that one drive was good to see, one good drive is nowhere near good enough.

I can hear the excuses they’ll give already.

    “The defense was so injured”

“The offense was so young and inefficient that the defense was out on the field too much”

“Their points allowed per game actually isn’t bad!”

But at the same time, pretty much any 3rd and long feels like a breath of relief if we’re able to stop it. That drive where Ekeler fumbled in the red zone it took them THREE PLAYS to get from their own 25 to our 2 yard line. I get they’re injured, but this inconsistency was just as bad when they were fully healthy too

Barry’s problem is his defense just doesn’t pass the eye test. I think they knew the season wasn’t going to be great so might as well keep a mediocre Defensive Coordinator and a rookie kicker. You can’t convince football players to lose on purpose but you can design a team to make it hard to win.
