I really wanted Kenny to be our guy, but looking at what other young QBs are doing makes me think taking him was a bing swing and miss. I was so happy draft night “I can’t believe he fell to us.” Now, it all makes sense. So what i would like to hear from yinz is who is your next QB1? Here are a few potential options.

If we want to be competitive next year and give Cam, TJ, Minkah a shot at a ring:

Potential Free Agents:

Kirk Cousins.

If he becomes available, he will be expensive and we may not be able to out pay the Falcons. He’s at the end of his QB life, but he’d be a noticeable upgrade at the position and give that defensive core a shot at the ring.

Jacoby Brisset.

A much less expensive, and also younger option here and I thought he has always played well, not elite, but makes good decisions. He understands AFC North football and I think he’s an upgrade over Kenny/Mitch.

If neither of the two are available, I think the Cam window is certainly shut and TJ/Minkah will be rapidly approaching. If that’s the case we should opt for athleticism at the position.

Tyler Huntley.

This would be the cheapest option and for good reason. He’s unproven. His limited time on the field shows a 60ish% completion percentage. But he can move. Have a mobile QB opens up a lot of space for everyone else.

Possible trade candidate.

Trey Lance

What? Are you serious? Well, yeah. He was traded to Dallas for a 4th round pick after never really getting a fair shot in SF. Lance had an injured finger in year 1 which kept him from getting preseason reps. Filled in for Jimmy G for two games and did pretty decent. Last year he was week 1 starter and broke his ankle in week2. I think he was without Kittle both of those games and this was obviously before CMC arrived. Then Brock Purdy happened. Considering all of that, it might not be too difficult to give Dallas a better 4th(we own LAR) or more for a shot at a franchise Qb.

I’m sure there will be many who disagree, but I’d love to hear what yinz think?

If Kenny is the starter next year we need to trade TJ, Minka and Cam. They deserve better. They should be on a team that has some resemblance of an offense.

Let’s be fr we aren’t gonna go and get a FA QB as much as y’all want. If anything we are going to either wait until Kenny’s contact is done or trade him and watch him be a superstar on some other team. We could potentially get some really good Qbs in the upcoming drafts (maybe not this year but next year)

It’s just a Greek tragedy at this point. The OL is awful yet again, the offense is awful yet again, and they feed off the awfulness of each other, making a great shit show.

Kenny is already not great, then you add in the terrible OL, and him getting happy feet & not setting to throw, and then staring down his receivers, you get a nice shit & Mater sandwich.

Now add in the shit schemer of him being pressured to make absolutely no mistakes, and he’s now afraid to even take a chance with the ball. It’s like he’s so nervous, he gets the yips.

The whole O & OL need massive changes.

I wanna see Kenny with an NFL OC first. Stillers win yesterday with an average NFL OC.

I don’t think they have any intention of replacing Kenny right now. This isn’t like other NFL franchises. They’re going to give him as much time as humanly possible to develop because that’s the Steelers way.

None of those are significant enough upgrades to justify the cost it would take to get them compared to what Kenny is being paid. We could take that ~15mil or so, roll with Kenny and get a real center bc its clear from yesterday if we cant stop pressure up the gut no qb will be successful

With Pickets total regression, I firmly believe either of our back ups would give us more than Kenny the rest of the way

If we maintain most of our defensive weapons next year, we don’t need to find a Justin Herbert or even Kylar Murray level QB. We just need someone who is slightly better than Kenny and can freaking throw the ball deeper and more accurately.

Yesterday is a prime example, I blame the POOR play calling but we were under 2 minutes with the ball and just needed to get it into field goal range and couldn’t accomplish that. I think they needed to move the ball 30 yards? Maybe less….point being that should be attainable by any NFL level team and any NFL Starting QB. Instead we went 3 and out on three shitty pass plays.

Browns get on the field and do EXACTLY what our offense couldn’t. That is all the film you need to see how terrible our offense is

I think the best case more realistic scenario would be the Bears taking a new QB and us trading a mid round pick for Justin Fields to be veteran competition for Kenny. The FO supposedly loved Fields coming out, and it’s well known they love to circle back and get guys they couldn’t draft down the line for cheaper. I also think Fields could actually be a pretty good fit for our offense and what the team wants to do. Our weapons would complement him well.

If the game plan is gonna be run the hell out of the ball while mixing in some deep shots to Pickens and DJ, Fields would be a good fit. We beat Cleveland and Jacksonville with him at QB IMO.

I’ll put my money on this: We bring in Kirk as a back up QB to help Kenny out as well as a new OC and we’ll address the O line a little more. Defense: No question we need linebackers bad, a corner, maybe safety.
