Hey guys, I’m curious. I feel like our 4 man pass rush is subpar. Is there a reason why we don’t blitz more often? I remember hearing in the broadcast yesterday that we only blitz about 23% of the time. You’d think it’d be more since our DL has been average at best.

It’s just a scheme thing, Meco has been cooking with our D Line ngl so the lack of blitzing to me isn’t as much of an issue because he brings on the pressure when it matters the most.

Texans are top 10 in pressures and pressure rates, we seem to have played a lot of mobile QBs this year that have been getting out of the pockets

OP take a look at yesterday’s plan which I’ve seen once before this season (Saints, IIRC)

We sent 4 almost all day. They did generate plenty of pressure all day forcing Murray to scramble multiple times. DeMeco kept his blitzes close to his chest. He lulled the offense into getting used to the 4 man pressure.

Then, for the final two critical plays of the game, he sent everyone. And Murray/the Cards could not handle it. They were totally overwhelmed. It was a thing of beauty.

It won us the game and it was great defensive play calling. Ryans knows that his DL isn’t where he wants it to be, but he also knows not blitz too much to make up for it.

This will become more effective as we continue to improve the DL into the future.
