I think the reason people are fast to move on Pickett is because of what we were sold. He was supposed to be a high floor low ceiling pick. An older rookie who’s strengths were accuracy and decision making. He has so shown to be not very good at either of those things. Plus because he was older coming out, it is hard to imagine a lot more growth. Person wise he has been great but he just hasn’t shown even a mediocre level of play. Please prove us wrong Kenny. Would love to see it.
Im a draft nerd, so I wasn’t particularly sold on Pickett from the beginning. That said, I’d be willingly patient if A) this was a roster devoid of talent in need of a massive rebuild and B) there were clear signs of progress from Kenny. He quite literally has played worse in the second half of his career than the 1st. Canada is an offense to the sport, but this level of offensive incompetence has to in large part be due to the QB play. You won’t find anyone who thinks the team has bottom of the barrel skill position talent, and though the O-line isn’t great, Kenny absolutely makes things worse. You can’t be a bottom 5 qb in every stat besides turnovers and expect him to leap up 20 spots. Him finishing 15th in most stats would be a miracle. I just think its very unlikely that the Steelers starting QB in 2025 is on the roster right now
He’s regressed, possibly significantly.
That’s why I’m ready to at least sit him 1-2 weeks. In fact I wouldn’t even give him a helmet. Just tell him to clear his head, focus on his film and figure it out.
Anyone who actually watches or knows football knew this kid didn’t have it like 5+ weeks ago. But we were shut down and told we weren’t “real Steelers fans” or “doomers” while they sucked themselves off because we’re above .500 again. Meanwhile Pickett was finishing with sub 200 yards and a GWD again like that meant he could be good. So many idiots on this sub who thought this kid wasn’t a bottom 3 QB despite every piece of evidence outside of the 2 min drill pointing to it.
I was off Pickett for the exact same reasons you’re saying, it was just a lot earlier that a lot of us recognized it. He is 25(26 next season) and has all the problems that a young project QB would’ve had with none of the upside. Inconsistent mechanics + footwork that lead to sub-par accuracy, poor pocket awareness, is a one-read guy and then checks it down, has a complete lack of chemistry with his weapons, and constantly plays out of rhythm and hits receivers out of stride, behind them, too high, etc.
Just watching the difference between him and Will Levis made me know he’s not the guy. Levis is making the same mistakes (with much less experience) but my god does the football look completely different coming out of his hands compared to Kenny’s. KP does not have an NFL arm and he clearly doesn’t have the decision making or accuracy either.
