When driving in city/commute. Are you using the start/stop for the engine to stall when you are stopping or you always disable it. Some mechanics are telling me it could cause problems to leave it enabled.

I have a sport individual setting that I use for daily driving. I set the steering and transmission to comfort, while having the engine in sport. This also disables ASS for me.

I like it in theory, but in practice the engine takes a full second or two to stabilize RPMs.

So in the manual the result is you either start to load the engine at really low RPMs when taking off right away from a dead stop- or you end up giving it more gas than necessary. In the end you get inconsistent first-gear starts and also probably bog the engine.

    I disabled it.

I also don’t like that it can be inconsistent. On the rare occasion I turn it on, let’s say in a drive-through, it wont even turn off the engine half the time- either because the wheels are turned (steering pump), the AC (compressor) is on or some other mysterious reason.

Idk guys, my i4 is so smooth off the line every time that you can’t even tell the engine was off.

Got mine turned off at start via code from day I bought the car brand new. Tried it a few times but don’t like it. Especially when you need to give way and just stop for like a second. With the automatic it turns the engine off far too fast.

I love it. Especially not being able to finesse the brakes at a complete stop or when pulling up behind someone who stopped too long and has to pull forward another 8 feet leaving a car gap in between us. It’s the best.

Fffffffffffffffffuck no. Thank god my M5 allows you to press it once to turn off and it’ll never reset itself. That “feature” is ridiculous and sucks.

I disabled it ages ago. Besides the fact that I dont like it and it saves little to no gas, I can’t imagine that is good for the car long term

apparently the consensus is that its only detrimental for the battery and the starters are actually made to last

I will leave mine on in town/village/country driving. In actually city conditions, well, sport mode disengages start/stop anyways! Hehe

Thinking this will cause damage is considered draconian this day in age. This will not damage your engine/transmission, etc. I personally never turn my off on my 23’ G20. It’s smooth and happens instantly. I don’t even notice it like I do in other cars I’ve driven.

I turn it off in winter, otherwise it slows down the engine reaching its operating temperature, and heating up the cabin. I have a commute that has a lot of stop and go traffic on the way.

turn that garbage off. people argue that its fine for the components, and they might be right to an extent. The technology manufactures put into cars with auto start/stop might more durable but regardless you’re implementing more wear and tear than is actually necessary during your commute. Unless your a die hard environmentalist its not worth it. Its not there to save you gas, its there to reduce emissions.
