The sad part is that I’ve seen the fedal fans insulting Sinner on social media for not tanking. Embarrassing.

Can’t reply to everyone, because I’m at work lol. Ben Rothenberg is well known. Already mentioned in a comment that he wasn’t the only one saying it. David Kane producer of Tennis Channel is another example. No matter how you look at it, it’s still wrong. It’s against the ATP rule book, because every player needs to give their best effort. You can get a $20.000 fine for violation.

Weaken his hold on no.1? What in the living fuck does that have to do with Sinner?

So you want Sinner to give up 200 points himself just to maybe take a few weeks at No.1 off of Djokovic.

Yes like why the fuck does Sinner care who is #1 between Alcaraz and Djokovic? The only reason he’d care is if he was close enough to take the spot.

Yea, at the moment Sinner should only care about reaching No.3, and then no.2 and so on.

If that also indirectly helps Djokovic stay at the top spot longer, he really shouldn’t care either way

where’s the problem? Novak has tanked/withdrawn/retired to preserve himself before. its all fair play if it’s within the rules. unless you think the godfather of medical timeouts, bathroom breaks, excessive ball bouncing, and tanking sets to tire out opponents is not fair play. winning a tournament is more than just winning every match in that tournament. it’s everything leading up to and surrounding it

The worst part is that Novak haters on Twitter are blaming and cursing Sinner for not tanking and in turn not stopping Novak but on this sub people think Novak fans are shitting on Sinner when in fact most Novak fans really like Sinner

Ben Rothenberg doesn’t have any self esteem. No wonder he doesn’t understand self esteem.

From a competition stand point, in the sense of aspiring to get the hands on that trophy, it would be stupid to keep Novak in the tournament when you can decide his fate. For other reasons, when it comes to ranking points, money, home crowd, not give a psychological upper hand to your opponent etc, there are reasons for him to win. But is all this as important as winning the trophy when you already won the group? Only Sinner knows.

Even if he loses, it doesn’t mean he didn’t try. It could be a subconscious or psychological thing too. In tennis every match you play you fight for survival, it’s very rare to be in a position where you enter the court and know whatever happens you will still progress. All the while his opponent has a totally different motivation where he has to win if he wants to progress. It’s a 100 mph crash. If Sinner gets off to a bad start where he really has to dig deep to win and Rune is on fire, I wouldn’t blame him at all if he just lets it go. It might be unprofessional, but the guy is not only through, he won the entire group already. Who are we to say he didn’t actually try? And did he do it just to get Djokovic out, or not to waste unnecessary physical and mental energy? We will never know.

It’s literally Ben Rothenberg Idk why people are still taking his opinions seriously. Wish he never gotten his account back.

(and yeah I hoped for Sinner to lose too (albeit not on purpose) but it’s insane to see people hating on Jannik for doing his job…the agenda against Novak winning is a bit too much even from a Fedal fan.)
