Before you mention Watkins, he was the 3rd receiving option and his highest yardage total was 673 yards in 2019, 29% of which came in one game vs Jacksonville (198 yards). Hill and Kelce were drafted by Dorsey. Rice was based off input from Mahomes, and isn’t a necessarily a sure thing himself.
This cannot be overstated: the WR room is a roster failure on Veach’s part. There is no way around it.
Veach is almost as bad as belicheck at drafting receivers. Hardman over metcalf and mclaurin, sky moore over Pickens, passed on TEE Higgins to draft CEH
I don’t think one can blame Veach 100% for the drafting of WRs when I think he’s hamstrung to some extent drafting Andy Reid type guys at WR.
Andy loves his short, quick & fast WRs. He’s had two generational guys over the years in Jackson & Hill but those types are few & far between compared to the usual 6’3 go up & get it guy.
Mecole, Skyy. You can’t tell me Andy didn’t have a big hand in picking those guys as they fit his type.
Yes Veach owns most of this. He is the GM. But Andy is in there. Lets not forget about that.
We’ve been fine until now when we tried to field a crew of nobody’s. Just a group of guys nobody elite or even close. They definitely took advantage of Patrick’s ability and just assumed he would be able to throw to anybody with arms. I’m pretty confident they’re gonna have a new group next year and this will not be a problem. These guys have the ability but I don’t know it almost seems mental. They just need experience. I’m willing to bet they pick up 1 if not 2 WRs early in the draft. I mean, I can’t think of a receiver we’ve drafted since tyreek that’s really made any kind of an impression. They rebuilt everything else, now they can build a top 5 WR room.
