This probably isn’t going to make much sense because admittedly, I have no clue to the ins and outs of the organization or what goes into scouting or whatever but here’s my take.
With this season being a complete dumpster fire and everyone looking to point fingers it got me thinking. Saleh’s press conferences of late have been very cryptic and almost like he has been distancing himself from some of the blame/decisions. We all saw that Zach wasn’t playing well but they stuck with him for so long. Why?
I’m starting to think that this was all coming from Douglas to save face. We all know that Saleh is a defensive coach, Douglas is a former offensive lineman, our defense and a majority of the players that we’ve brought in have been fantastic, outside of Garrett and Breece (I’ll also include AVT, miss you big guy), who else on offense has been a standout?
Now there is the quote from Saleh floating around that him and Douglas didn’t necessarily see eye to eye on Zach. I think Douglas fell in love with the kid at the combine and couldn’t be talked out of taking him. Then when it looked like it wasn’t working, Douglas forced Saleh to keep playing him because they didn’t want to admit they made a mistake in taking him.
I’m a fan of both Saleh and Douglas, Douglas has facilitated a lot of trades to help get those defensive guys that Saleh wanted. I don’t know, the seasons over and I have nothing left.

Maybe it’s more than face. More than pride. Maybe Woody was not so keen on hitting the reset button again on the quarterback position. Something we do a lot. Maybe Douglas told him I bet my job on this kid literally! Like it’s in writing somewhere…
