On the whole compared to last year, we continue to be a top 5 offense across the board, with fairly negligible differences in the counting stats. Red Zone Conversion was an issue to start the season, but over the last 5 games, we’ve been league leading in that regard.

Also just important to remember context. Last season, we had a very experienced OC playing against one of the easier schedules in the league. This season, we have a brand new playcaller matched up against one of the toughest schedules in the league.

Are there improvements to be made? Yes. But the numbers speak for themselves.

The stats also don’t seem to capture the fact that in the 10 games in 2023, Brian Johnson has had to match wits against Bill Belichick, Brian Flores, Todd Bowles, Robert Saleh, Dan Quinn and Steve Spagnuolo, all very well regarded defensive coaches. Other than Dan Quinn and DeMeco Ryans I’m not really remembering which good DCs the 2022 team spanked. Maybe Wink Martindale?

Perhaps one could argue that Brian Johnson is winning these matchups because of the talent he has on his team and not anything he is doing schematically or with his play calling, but if so then he is at least doing a good job of getting enough out of his talent to have a top 5 offense.
