The height of El Clásico, Ronaldo v Messi and arguably the two most dominant teams of the last decade or so. However which team was more successful during this time period.
I think I lean towards Madrid barely
I’m a little mixed on this.
On one hand, Barcelona definitely had more domination. On the other, Madrid won the 3peat when no other club had even managed to get 2 in a row prior.
Regardless, we were spoilt by that era of football and doubt we ever see anything like that again. Truly blessed to see that era of Classico.
Barca. It’s not even a contest.
Well RMA won champions leagues in row several times, but Barca era was the most delightfull football in football history for any viewer.
Talking about Europe specifically, it’s been Real Madrid. They’ve been much more dominant than Barça. But if we’re talking about overall display, it’s Barça. They outplayed Real Madrid in Laliga plus domestic competitions. They’ve been the better magnet to attract great players. Most of the footballing world agrees that Barça 2011 is the greatest team of all time. They’ve won the most individual awards. Barça’s La Masia has proven itself to be a lot better than La Fabrica.
Real Madrid will always be better as an overall team historically. But 2009-19 was Barça’s decade.
Barca slightly edged them out for that period, but Madrid are still the biggest and most successful club in the history of football.
I say slightly because in the grand view of things domestic titles are just not as important as UCL wins. Think about AC Milan and Juventus. Globally, Milan are way more famous because they did well in Europe even though Juve are way ahead of them domestically.
The debate might be over in a few months if/ when Barca is stripped off of all their La Liga titles with the referee bribery scandal.
