Have a BMW 2017 M140i with a ZF 8 speed automatic gearbox. Bought it a couple months back and it is currently at 95K KM mileage. Almost guaranteed that the previous owner did not do any maintenance work on this car. I had the engine oil changed but I am wondering should I flush or change the transmission fluid? Have read a bit about full flushing causing slippage issues hence unsure if I should proceed.
Any advice? Thanks!
Dont flush a transmission.
Have the pan dropped and cleaned and the filter changed.
Flushing just stirs up crap in the pan and clogs the filter, dead transmission.
Add 20oz of a friction modifier to the transmission then top it up with the recommended fluid, adds back the “stiction” the old contaminated fluid had, keeps the worn bands and clutches working.
Your owner’s manual will likely say “fluid change” not “fluid flush”. So do that.
It will also have the type of transmission fluid to use. DO NOT use any other type. You may be able to use one of a few different brands. But the type must be the same.
