2019 subaru impreza, 86,000 miles

Sep 27th -front brakes replaced. Car drives fine, zero issues.

October 8th - rear brakes replaced. Drive ~19 miles home at around 65mph. When i get home the front wheels are very hot, brakes smell like they’re burning. Brother checks everything out to include calipers, everything looks okay.

October 10th - take car in for state inspection, it passes, brakes are fine. On my way home, right around 65mph my car begins to shake. It’s not the steering wheel, it feels like the entire vehicle. I stop for about an hour, and when I continue my drive home, the shaking continues.

The shaking does not occur again until

October 27th - driving on highway, around 65mph, car begins shaking. It gets progressively worse and I pull off the highway asap. Drive home a different route around 30-40mph, car drives smoothly. When I get home my front wheels are very hot and have a slight brake burning smell.

Things to note: -i do not brake hard, I generally just take my foot off the gas and let the momentum dissipate. -between the episodes of shaking, I drove 700+ miles to include both city and highway, sometimes going about 70mph -the shaking is NOT worse with braking. It’s fairly consistent whether I’m cruising, accelerating, or braking -tires were new January of this year -shaking is not from the steering wheel. It feels like the entire vehicle is bouncing and wheels are about to fly off -the shaking was so violent that the speedometer needle was oscillating

I don’t know if these are coincidental problems or linked. No diagnosis seems to fit the symptoms

Warped front brakes or loose wheel/loose lug nuts can both cause bad shaking

Possibly even a bad wheel bearing, but that usually makes some sort of constant humming or “roaring” sound that increases with speed

If it’s loose wheel/loose lug nuts or a bad wheel bearing those are EMERGENCY items you should get fixed asap, if your wheel(s) fall off the car while driving you can suddenly lose control or crash and hurt either yourself or someone else. Put the bill on a credit card if you have to, it’s that urgent in terms of your safety

If the brakes are really hot or “smoking” then it could possibly be warped rotors

I had a bad/violent shake (entire car would shake when braking on the highway) in my front-end this past summer, and in my case it turned out to be “extremely warped” (my mechanic’s exact words in the work order paperwork) front rotors
