So this is obviously a Matt Eberflus question.
He obviously not cut out to be a head coach in this league. Can’t seem to manage games and is awful at addressing the media.
However you cannot ignore how the defense has improved since he’s taken over Alan Williams duties?l.
So has this ever happened in the league? If so, would you like to see it happen or would you rather cut ties completely?
This isn’t madden. If he’s gone, he’s gone.
The closest I can think of with us is Fangio interviewed to be the HC but still chose to stick around as DC when Nagy was picked.
Eberflus would get 4.5 mil per for the next two years if fired. If demoted it probably comes with a pay reduction as 4.5 mil for a DC might be a record salary.
If fired, he gets his money and the potential to get onto a staff elsewhere or another DC role.
Imagine having a boss. He’s a decent guy, but you can tell he’s out of his element. You feel your job is constantly at risk because of his overall leadership. Whether it’s his style, his approach, a combination of both, you know he’s the answer.
But after 2+ years (which in my dumb hypothetical, could be considered 10 years, since 2 years is a long ass time for an NFL player), he’s fired. He’s replaced by another boss. But the former boss, who has been “done” for almost a year, is now your new boss’ lieutenant.
Think about the chaos this would cause in the workplace. First, even if you loved your boss, having him stay is really awkward because he’s no longer the boss. That’s brings potential for the new boss to be hated.
Likewise, if you truly hated or at least loathed your old boss, but imagine still seeing him everyday and still having significant say in the business.
Imagine how good this defense could be if we got some real coaches in here.
