Indie developers have taken on the role of making insane, goofy games.

Most big publishers avoid investing in games like that because of their highly “experimental” nature which could yield no return on investment.

Whereas with indie developers the stakes aren’t so high so they can afford to do it out of passion.

As I replied to another comment in the thread, you can’t just post this and ignore Fortnite, one of the biggest hits in the last years (if not the biggest) that happens to be an insane, goofy and fun game.

Flying with balloons, drifting golf carts, grenades attached to literal plungers… Hell, even the battlebus itself is the goofiest concept of them all, a fucking BUS flying with a balloon and a rocket lmao.

Most vehicles are silly, many weapons are silly, half of the skins and dances are about being goofy and the graphics are cartoon instead of trying to be realistic.

You also have Rumbleverse, Rocket League, Sea of Thieves…

Thankfully we still have indie developers.

I have been saying this for years, I really believe if we didn’t have Flash games indie development would be nothing like it is today.

    RIP flash & shockwave.

Not too long ago, someone asked me what my favorite football game was and I instant said Mutant League Football. Then I had to spend the next 20 minutes explaining what it was and why it was great.
