Only a fool would judge him too harshly over this season. I’m giving him all next season too.

    I like this guy.

Honestly no, i think the idea that Brian would draft a high round qb if the next 10 games werent way better is ridiculous, even if his contract makes it easy to move on, he’s gotta have at least 2 seasons of starting in order to see what he could be. There are plenty of HOF’rs who played middling to poor in their inaugural years with flashes of greatness. i think Love has had a lot of those flashes that we wanted, its just his consistency which we have to say has been better of the last few games

    By some, absolutely.

He is leading an offense which is extremely shorthanded. From a salary cap perspective, the Packers’ top paid offensive players outside of Love are as follows:

    1. Aaron Rodgers (40.3M) - not on the team

    2. David Bahktiari (21.3M) - on IR, and only played 1 game.

    3. Aaron Jones (8.2M) - Injured most of the season, mostly limited in all but about 2 games.

    4. Elgton Jenkins (6.7M) - Injured and limited for first 2/3 of season.

    5. Christian Watson (2.1M) - Missed 1/3 of season and arguably limited for the rest.

That’s almost 79M of cap space dedicated to offensive players who have not been able to contribute fully, and 62.6M that have had basically no contribution. On the one game that both Bahk and Jones were available Love posted 3 TD / 0 Int 123 passer rating (admittedly not being his cleanest game).

Even if we include the limited players (Jenkins, Watson, Jones), the Packers salary cap spending on offense is basically 43M, and if we discount those players then we’re somewhere between there an 26M. And it’s not like the numbers are artificially low because we’ve just signed big name players to extensions. This really hammers home the lack of proven, veteran talent on this offense relative to what many other teams in the league are working with.

I find it funny that people would blame (insert QB name) shortcoming on the FO failing to provide them with a good enough WR2-3, and yet at the same time think that Love should be putting up consistent excellent numbers with this level of lack of proven talent.

Now, I dont’ think that Love has been perfect by any means, and he certainly has room to improve. But I dont’ think there’s a single QB in the entire league that you could argue has been able to do more with less around him.

When I see him play I see an unpolished elite athlete with the physical tools to be a top 10 QB in the league in a year or two. He is also very stoic and mature for his age. Can say the same thing about Musgrave, Watson, Doubs, and Reed, maybe even Wicks too, which are coincidentally the guys he’s throwing the ball to. On top of that our line hasn’t protected him very well consistently. If we can be patient, we will be winners long term with this young roster.

People are hyper critical of Love which is fine, but you have to look at it both ways.

If you shoot him down for his mistakes you should also praise him for what he does well.

Right now, there is a helluva lot more that he does well than what he does wrong.

By the Packers? Probably yes. By the rest of us? Probably not.

Maybe. I think if you actually watch him play, you see more of what he has in him. You see the potential along with the talent. However, you also see the poor decision making aspect of his game.

If you just look at the stats though… then he looks like the worst qb in the league. Colin said it perfectly… “When I see Pickett play, there’s nothing there. But with Love, there’s something I see.”

Love seems to be a great student of the game and wants to perfect his craft. Young qbs have a lot to learn and work on. When he got here his accuracy was an issue. He has improved from his rookie year, but all of this improvement was almost all through practice. Live game action is vastly different which may be contributing to some bad habits like footwork and awkward throws. It’s probably something he will work on throughout the rest of this season and the off season. The FO needs to get him more help up front, a true #1 on the outside, a solid LT, and possibly a new RB if AJ leaves. There’s definitely a lot of things to be excited about with Love, hopefully he can continue to improve and refine a few of his in game bad habits
