I combed through the subreddits for each of the teams listed here to make sure the team would actually be interested in Siakam and also to find out which of their assets they would be willing to part with to acquire Siakam on a one-year deal.
Indiana Pacers.
The Pacers have been confirmed by Grange and Marc Stein to have previously contacted the Raptors about Siakam. They still don’t have a starting-calibre PF, and their defense and rebounding have greatly suffered this season as a result. Siakam is a good fit next to a stretch 5 in Myles Turner and would instantly be their 2nd best player behind Haliburton.
The trade…
To Pacers: Pascal Siakam
To Raptors: Buddy Hield, Aaron Nesmith, Isaiah Jackson, Andrew Nembhard
Raptors accrue depth that fits around Scottie Barnes with the floor-spacing vet Buddy Hield, a young perimeter defender in Nesmith who’s shot 38% from 3 over the past 2 seasons, an athletic 21-year-old rim protector in Isaiah Jackson, and the prize, 23-year-old Canadian PG Andrew Nembhard.
Dallas Mavericks.
Much like the Pacers, the Mavericks have also started off the season with a great offense but an abysmal defense and horrible rebounding. They’ve been rumoured to be after Siakam to fit alongside Luka for years. From what I’ve read from their fans, the only untouchable asset they have is the rookie Derek Lively.
The trade…
To Mavericks: Pascal Siakam, Otto Porter Jr
To Raptors: Tim Hardaway Jr, Richaun Holmes, Josh Green, Jaden Hardy
Raptors get a different vet shooter in Hardaway, a young 3+D player in Green, and a 21-year-old shot creator in Hardy. Holmes is there for salary matching only, he’s not even in Mavs’ rotation.
Sacramento Kings.
Why would the Kings want Siakam? Yep, you guessed it, their defense, rebounding, and overall size sucks. They’ve also shown that their offense falls off a cliff when one of their star duo misses time. They’ve also been rumoured to be after Siakam for at least 3 or 4 years. They don’t seem willing to include rising star Keegan Murray, though.
The trade…
To Kings: Pascal Siakam, Otto Porter Jr
To Raptors: Harrison Barnes, Kevin Huerter, Davion Mitchell, Colby Jones
Raptors get 2 shooting vets in Barnes and Huerter, a relatively young defensive PG in Mitchell, and a 21-year-old rookie PG in Colby Jones
Golden State Warriors.
I probably don’t need to keep repeating myself about why a team would want Siakam. They need better players around Steph, and Siakam would be their 2nd best player. The fans on their subreddit seem very, very on board with making a trade.
The trade…
To Warriors: Pascal Siakam, Otto Porter Jr
To Raptors: Chris Paul, Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski
Raptors get a vet guard who probably gets rerouted for a pickle sandwich, along with a 21-year-old 3+D wing in Moody, and a 20-year-old rookie PG in Podziemski with huge 2-way potential. Warriors also get their boy Otto back!
If you don’t like these trades feel free to roast the shit outta them (and me, I can take it!)
I see the fit and realistic nature of all the trades but I want at least one pick and/or prospect with star potential for Pascal. We are giving up an all NBA player for role players. This is more like the Rudy gay trade but it should be more like PG for SGA. That’s an extreme example but a watered down version is fine imo. Keegan Murray comes to mind. Kings say no, fine. I’m higher on kuminga than many. If you think he can be an all star then that’s the kind of return that I’d expect.
First off, A+ for the username
Second off, i’m assuming these are before adding in any draft capital?
Pacers
Not terrible but that’s a lot of players - several of whom I wouldn’t expect the Raptors to want over others like Mathurin (likely off the table but you’re going to ask about him/demand him until the last minute), Jarace Walker or even Ben Sasser. You’d probably want to re-route Buddy elsewhere - either a pick, young player, swap with filler, etc. - unless you’re willing to add yet another UFA to an already complicated offseason but regardless, the Raptors don’t have a lot of roster slots left over, even if they get an exception for Koloko if his condition is season ending.
Kings
Any trade with the Kings begins and ends with “is Keegan Murray on the table?” If no, the phone’s bein hung up because the Kings have fuckall to offer the Raptors, let alone compared to the Pacers; if they can’t beat the Hawks offer that we turned down, then we’re not going to bother with a worse offer
Mavericks
Same as the Kings but with Lively - who to be fair, Dereck has been incredibly impactful for the Mavericks and I would expect to be off limits as a result. The Mavericks best package is frankly gross even as a “it’s better than nothing” offer.
Warriors
At this stage I feel like the Warriors might prefer moving Klay? Makes it easier to fit in Siakam and Looney in the starting 5 but that’s the Dubs’ problem. For the Raptors this might be the most “Masai” trade I could see happening even if i’d expect them to ask for Kuminga - if only to reroute him to a 3rd team (Pistons for Ivey? Change of scenery for both!). And given the salary that would need to be added in to make the trade work, there’s a lot less issues with finding slots to house all the roster slots, especially if you get that exception for Koloko.
Warriors one if you added one more asset I’d do.
Add 2 FRPs to the Indiana or GS trades and I’m happy.
Gonna need 3 FRPs for the Kings or Mavs packages, but the Mavs don’t have that. I don’t see a world where the Mavs can make a trade with us for Pascal.
I’m cool taking back a good veteran shooter to place around Scottie while the team resets (Hield, Huerter) but I don’t think that should be a main piece coming back.
I’m not an expert, but we don’t have the roster room for these trades. What kind of penalties would raptors get for having to release 3 or 4 players from their roster.
