this is my very first post so hi! semi long story but here we go.
so i met some really nice people in qp and we ended up playing some comp. i don’t normally play comp but i do on occasion, so i was totally fine trying to play with others rather than solo queue. one of them brought some friends along who were very obviously much higher rank than i was and it turned sour quick. my friend was the only one who would speak to me and respond to my call outs, he was really trying to be encouraging even though in this match i knew i was the weakest link. i was also playing dps when i normally main support but i thought i was holding my own fairly well, all things considered. we ended up losing in round 3 but not by much. the last season i was in gold so i know i’m not the absolute worst (or best) player but they treated me like i was absolute garbage. it was really awkward and disheartening, but i still asked if they wanted to play another and nobody responded… after waiting a min or so they just left one by one until my new friend was the only one left and he awkwardly but politely said he was going to get off for a while and maybe we could play again later. i can understand that it’s comp and nobody wants to derank or whatever, but at the end of the day it’s a game and i think it’s really shitty of them to treat me like that. if it really angered them so much, why not give me pointers or constructive criticism to help me improve my gameplay? or at the very least be fucking nice about it. anyways i understand that every online gaming community has some varying levels of toxicity, especially team based ones, but it’s instances like this that make me never want to have my mic on to even try. ow has a lot of different parts to it and it’s definitely not easy to learn quickly, but i really do wish people would be nicer considering it’s team based. especially knowing in this instance i was proof that one person can really make or break a game at times.
Don’t play with them. I can get toxic in competative matches for sure, but never to someone in my party. I can’t be mean to someone’s face. I play league and I’m pretty bad at it, but I have a friend online who’s good, he’s either emerald or diamond. That guy is super positive. I used to get upset when I would fuck up, but now I just ask him for tips. Why was the move I made bad, or why am I behind, what to do when I’m behind on lane etc. League is very different to OW, it’s not about actual skill with what you’re playing, it’s more about game sense and knowing who you’re fighting against. OW doesn’t have 150 heroes.
