What’s the difference between this and distant horizons? Is it just better playability at high render distances?

I find Distant Horizions to be pretty distracting, if your looking down at something or up at a hill, you can often notice when the terrain has been simplified at a glance

Still a great mod either way though

I’ve used Distant Horizons just for fun. I was able to set it to 600 render distance and took about 5 or 6 hours to fully load lol. I use Distant Horizons on my ROG Ally but I might look into using this on my desktop.

This actually renders the chunks, while Distant Horizons gives the impression it’s rendered, but at a lower quality to reduce CPU and GPU usage

Whether it’s with Distant Horizons or legit, long render distances are really ruined by lack of shaders. It’s either DH or C2ME that expands how high you can set the real render distance, but I can set it up to 128 without losing shaders. Looks amazing, but it drops to about 6 fps once it’s loaded past a ~64 chunk radius with an RTX 3070.

The efficiency and computing power aren’t quite there yet, but I think within the next few years we’ll be able to natively run shaders on 100+ render distance using mid-range hardware.
