I would have less all year anxiety with a M340
f80, that was the first m3 (well ig m4 since that was the one that became the hot wheels car) that i experienced the release of in my actual conscious lifetime. i thought it was the coolest thing ever, then the m4 gts came out and it was outdone.
M340i, going from a F30 340 to a F80 is going to be super underwhelming

No it’s literally the same car just with a different engine & it handles a bit better? you could practically make a better version of the F80 by tuning your 340
My 340 is tuned. Stage 2+ e30. Feels like a rocket ship (in a straight line). Drives nothing like an M car though. Extremely numb and vague. I’d imagine the m340 is the same.
I have a 430d and it drives completely different to the F32 430, feels way more connected & not at all numb or vague. If that’s how a non M model drives is I imagine the M340 drives like a true M car & even if it doesn’t it’ll feel much better than your F30

M30 is too harsh of a ride for the roads here, so 340i for me.

if you want something that has a daily driver potential with speed like the m3 do the m340i, i have one and i love it, perfect in all weather conditions

As you mentioned you have a f30 340i assume thats a b58 so is the top one here m3 got a s engine plus a beautiful classic chasis so if i was you would go with the f80 brother
